Computational Analysis of Brazilian Choro is a research endeavor encompassing several projects and approaces. We investigate how new digital technologies can support the musical practice of Brazilian choro, combining musicological expertise and cultural heritage research with computational methods for large-scale music analysis, as well as the development of AI-driven tools for harmonic analysis and automatic harmonization of choro melodies.

We are based at the Zentrum für Philologie und Digitalität (ZPD) at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and collaborate closely with the Instituto Casa do Choro in Rio de Janeiro, home to the world’s largest choro archive.
