This project investigates how new digital technologies can support the musical practice of Brazilian choro. Our research combines musicological expertise and cultural heritage research with computational methods for large-scale music analysis and the development of AI-driven tools for harmonic analysis and automatic harmonization of choro melodies.
We are based at the Zentrum für Philologie und Digitalität (ZPD) at Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and collaborate closely with the Instituto Casa do Choro in Rio de Janeiro, home to the world’s largest choro archive.
